PASTORS BIO 

Oscar J. Anthony is one of 14 children of the Rev. Lee and Ica (Ice-ah') Anthony. He accepted Jesus Christ into his life at an early age and grew up in a Christian home. He is married to Linda (Nichols) Anthony, and they have been together since 1971. They have four children, Oscar Anthony Jr. (wife La vesha) Danette Kemp (husband Kenny), Myla Binning (husband Matt), and Loren Anthony (wife Ericka). They have thirteen grand children, Kendall (husband Colton), Kelsey, Zakar, Zara, Zayla, Gavin, Ariyah, Brooklyn, Jalen, Bryce, Christian, Kaden, Luke and 2 great-grand children, Kinsey and Jackson.

He was honorably discharged from the United States Army as a Medical Corpsman in 1971. He became an apprentice Carpenter, 1971 to 1974, and later became a Recruiter Specialist for Mexican American Opportunity Program from 1974 to 1979. Opportunity opened for him to become the Assistant Director for Kern County Teen Challenge Program. Thereafter, he graduated from the Plumbers and Pipe-fitters Apprenticeship Program, 1981 to 1987. A back injury forced him to change careers and he was hired as Executive Director of the Friendship House Community Center in 1987. After the death of his father, a month later, he also became the Pastor of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church.

Oscar graduated from Bakersfield Jr. College, with an AA in Liberal Arts in 1974 and a BA from California State University, Bakersfield, in Public Administration in 1979. In June 2003, he graduated from the Golden Gate Theological Seminary with a diploma in Christian Ministries under their Leadership Training Program. In June 2010, he received his Masters of Arts in Theology (MA) from Faith Evangelical College and Seminary (FECS), Tacoma, Washington, his Masters of Divinity (MDiv) in October 2012, and subsequently received his Doctorate Of Ministry (DMin) in 'Strategic Leadership' in June 2015. His dissertation focused on community outreach and is entitled ‘Hidden Barriers: A Correlation between Family and Community Deterioration in the Southeast Community of Bakersfield, California and the lack of Effective, Collective, and Caring Community Outreach by the local Church.

He served on the Bakersfield City Council, the City of Bakersfield Planning Commission, the Kern Community College Board of Trustees, Cal State University of Bakersfield Presidents Advisory Board and many other organizations, boards, and commissions.

Oscar is presently Pastor of the St. Peter Restoration Community Christian Ministries, formally known as St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church, organized by his father, the late Rev. Lee Anthony in 1951. While pastor, Oscar organized the Restoration Christian Book Store, to encourage reading and entrepreneurialism. He also organized the churches non-profit organization, Restoration Community Project, Inc. A faith-based program, set up to provide counseling, job training, and residential treatment, for individuals recovering from addictive behaviors.

He was part of the leadership team that started the No Name Fellowship of Kern County, which encouraged racial reconciliation and sponsored many citywide/countywide meetings, marches, and prayer gatherings. He developed and is providing leadership to the city wide Christian Outreach Strategy called BLOCK BY BLOCK. Its purpose is to encourage each church to adopt and serve the neighborhood (blocks) around their church and each church member to serve the block in which they live.

Faith

Faith is the cornerstone of our church. It is part of every activity that we do, every meeting that we hold. We believe in our Lord, and that our actions are a reflection of his goodness. 

Scripture

We look to the Lord for guidance in our lives. In Scripture, we find all that we need to guide us in the right path. Reading and understand Scripture helps us all live meaningful lives. 

Community
